Sofia Lepekh combines studies at the Faculty of Journalism with the studies at the Faculty of Law. In 2018 she received a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Journalism, and a year later entered not only the Faculty of Journalism, but also the Faculty of Law of the Institute of Postgraduate Education. She continues to study now and wants to share interesting experience and the story of her choice with the future entrants.
About me
Can one, who has gained fame, honor and success, be considered a professional? I think many people dream of conquering the top of popularity, but realizing that it is not as easy, follow their own way. You should not be disappointed if your colleagues are ahead of you. On the contrary, do your best to make your work enjoyable, which is more important than glory. This is exactly what I do: I am in love with my profession, I do not run for fame, but I stubbornly develop myself, even if it requires a lot of efforts. And, to be honest, the desire to give up and leave everything sometimes happens.
My name is Sofia Lepekh and I am a journalist. My Alma Mater is the Faculty of Journalism of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. I will not tell you how to pass the test and exam session without worrying, I will not write life hacks how to cheat or to skip lectures. You will learn how to do that on your own. The student years at the university were so fun and dynamic that it is impossible to forget them. And later one and a half year of unforgettable study for master degree at the Faculty of Law was spent. So sit comfortably with me in my time machine, I’ll take you to my childhood.
Choice of profession
I grew up in a family of lawyers, and moreover, both graduates of Lviv University. Therefore, at the age of six, I already knew what a legal entity is and how it differs from an individual. I could never have imagined that in the 11th grade I would slam my fist on the counter in front of my parents and submit documents for admission to Faculty of Journalism. By the way, I never regret it.
Even during my studies, I worked in the press center of the Student Council of Lviv, later on the radio “Independence”, well, who would have thought, even in the police. Don’t ask what exactly made me to go in the opposite direction, because I don’t know the answer myself. Probably, destiny makes the adjustments in my life. During two years in the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Lviv region, I decided to get another education – Law and, without betraying family traditions, entered the same university. Studying at two faculties combined with work: running from one faculty to another, and later, to work, became increasingly difficult. When I got home, I was completely exhausted and remembered a quote from Pierre Buast: “Education is a treasure, work is the key to it.” Hazardous people are said to be dangerous, but there are some advantages. My passion is that, having two full higher educations, I am thinking about getting the third one, and maybe I will get it. My dream is to get an education in public administration. Worth it or not – time will tell us. I have something to strive for, grow and improve. I understand very well that I am still looking for my place under the sun. I know that I want to become, like my father, a writer, so I stubbornly go to my goal. But before becoming a master of the pen, he went through many thorny paths, and this gives me, a young journalist, even more confidence in my abilities.
If you compare me at school and university, you will see two different persons: from an insecure pupil I grew to a confident student. The university opened up my oratory and organizational skills, and also brought up responsibility in me, because I was the monitor of the group. Already on the first course, I had a dream to become a teacher, and then the dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Mykhailo Pavlovych Prysyazhnyy, said that I had an Excellent Student Syndrome, which I would lose in my senior year. I didn’t get rid of it completely, but I started to take studying easier, though no less seriously.
Advice for entrants
My dear entrant, the doors of many universities of our country are open for you, but you should follow your heart while choosing the right one, that will give you the opportunity to develop yourself. I know that these words could be criticized, but that’s how I chose. You will not regret entering Journalism or Law, because holding two diplomas you will remember the Dedication to Journalism on the Altai Lakes in Lviv, the equator, lectures by Professor Lyzanchuk Vasyl Vasylyovych and Lubkovych Ihor Markiyanovych. You will always keep in mind how you were learning criminal and civil law late at night but did not pass exams. The words: “Please, give me at least three” will be engraved in your memory. Although, I will give you advice: do not give up and do not limit yourself to satisfactory grades! I know that studying is extremely difficult, but it is possible!
